Dr. Solomon Basame is a Principal Process Engineer at Applied Materials, Inc., in Gloucester, MA. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Electrochemistry in 1999, from the University of Utah, and his B.Sc., Magna cum laude, in 1992 from Paine College, Augusta, GA. Before joining AMAT in 2010, Dr. Basame worked for 12 years in diverse positions, including a post-doctoral researcher at UC Berkeley, California (1999 – 2002), a post-doctoral fellow and research scientist at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM (2002 – 2005), and as a senior electroplating engineer for Surfect Technologies, Inc., in Tempe, AZ (2005 – 2010). Dr. Basame is no stranger to public and community services and, as a member of the board of directors, he fits right in the role. From 2011 to 2017,
Dr. Basame served as the president of Cameroon Social Club (CAMSOC) in the Northeast Region of Massachusetts. In this role, he led efforts to bring awareness and promote a diverse African culture in the community and also helped the newly arrived Africans to integrate into the society. He served as a member of the board of delegates to deliberate retention of students and faculty at the University of Utah (1995 – 1998). He was president of the African Resources Forum in Salt Lake City, UT – a non-profit organization that helped to settle displaced refugees from various African countries (1994 – 1996). He also served as mentor and was on the advisory board for AFRIKA, a student-body organization at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM (2000 – 2003). Dr. Basame is acutely aware that the African heritage is worth every effort to fight for and to preserve, starting from his home-village of Dikome Balue, in Cameroon. His three favorite words are jazz, family and community.
